You might not know this about me, but I love singing and always imagine myself singing in front of big crowds.
My Fear of Singing
But then, I would only sing alone in my bedroom or in the shower – never in front of people.
Why did I never sing in front of people?
Because I have a belief about myself that I don’t have a good voice or that my message is not good enough.
I was afraid that I’m gonna be rejected or humiliated if someone hears me – but at the same time, I secretly long for people to hear me.
I’ve composed many songs and just recorded them on my phone and never shared them with people.
But earlier this year, I made a vow to share my voice at every opportunity I get.
The Festival Moment
Then a few months later, I found myself at the @ibizatantrafestival to share my magic and speak about my projects.
On the first day, I met a friend @benjamin_zech and he challenged me to sing the song for him.
So I said: “Really? you wanna hear it?” He made me feel so seen and desired that I felt confident to share it with him.
So I started to sing my very cheezy song.
The next day he comes to me and sings my song back to me and told me how it impacted him and touched his heart deeply. He said that it’ss a really powerful song, I should sing it in front of the entire festival of almost five hundred people.
Again, I was surprised! “Really? You think it’s that good?”
He said yes which really empowered me and motivated me to sing it in front of everyone.
Two days later I was getting excited about the idea and asked for the microphone in one of the morning meetings.
The whole crowd was watching me … I could almost hear their thoughts: “What is she gonna do? Sing? Really?”
Yes, the energy was weird, all eyes on me and people didn’t know what to expect as no one has ever seen me sing before.
I closed my eyes and I started singing from my heart.
Before I even finished the last line of the song, people started screaming and applauding. I smiled
What I learned
It was like a dream come true. I realised that confidence is not about appearance but an inner feeling from my heart: I’m loved no matter what.
I’m now taking my singing more seriously, getting online lessons from the lovely @janeburnellsoprano
